Sichuan Earthquake Google Earth Visualizations
The Google Earth blog has put together a list of some of the better KML visualizations of China’s Sichuan earthquake which already has a confirmed death toll of nearly 30000 and another 20000 feared dead. First off, check out the USGS real-time quake monitoring tool and see how many fairly powerful aftershocks have followed the main 7.9 magnitude quake. Next take a look at Steven Ho’s KML visualization of the quake which you can view in the Youtube video above. Google also got their hands on some satellite imagery of the quake’s aftermath courtesy of NSPO, Taiwan’s national space agency.
Finally Ogle Earth points to a KMZ file that pinpoints all of the damaged dams on Google Earth. Check them out. Especially if you live in the US or Canada, the visuals really brings some reality to the catastrophic situation.
