Dash Opens Up API For Dash Express, Developers Can Now Build Applications

Dash has opened up the API for the hot new Dash Express so developers can develop their own applications for the GPS unit.  So far a few apps are available including a homes-for-sale app from Coldwell Banker, a calendar app that can pull your appointments from Microsoft Outlook and then route you to them, a WeatherBug weather app, an app that locates speed traps from Trapster, and finally a Mediaguide app that’ll display all of the songs just played on local radio stations.  Of course, CNET’s Crave blog points out that the Dash Express is by no means the most popular GPS unit on the market, although it’s definitely the neatest, and unless consumers get behind it interest in developing apps for it will wane fairly quickly.  The other issue is safety in that developers without GPS experience may actually create applications that cause problems for drivers, whether it be because of distraction or otherwise.  Dash is supposed to announce more about the open API today at the Where 2.0 conference, but in the meantime you can find available apps at MyDash.
