Garmin Oregon Series Confirmed, Available For Preorder
Garmin’s Oregon touchscreen handheld GPS units have been confirmed by the company. The rugged handhelds geared toward the outdoorsy among us, the Oregon series combines the “touchscreen interface of our iconic automotive devices with the preloaded features of the acclaimed Colorado series” according to Garmin’s Dan Bartel. The Oregon series models-200, 300, 400i, 400c, and 400t-all share some basic features in common, but are all unique in some way.
All of the models feature a high-res, color 3-inch touchscreen, high-sensitivity GPS receiver, preloaded mapping, and Garmin’s proprietary HotFix which stores satellite data allowing users to get position info without a satellite fix on mountains or the middle of the ocean. All models allow for customization of five profiles-automotive, marine, recreation, fitness, and geocaching-and allow for the wireless exchange of waypoints, geocaches, and tracks with other Oregon and Colorado handhelds. Finally each Oregon model is a light 6.8 Ounces and works for 16 hours continuously with two AA batteries.
In terms of unique features, the Oregon 400t has preloaded US topographic maps with 3D elevation detail, the Oregon 400i has shoreline details, depth contours and boat ramp locations, the Oregon 400c provides charts for the coastal waters off the US and Bahamas, the Oregon 300 has a worldwide map with shading, and the Oregon 200 provides a basemap that can be added to with supplemental maps or charts.
