It seems that certain Garmin nuvi models-specifically the 200 and 260-are having some issues with the new 4.3 firmware update. Normally, nuvi PND’s give several voice warnings before an upcoming turn. With the new update, several nuvi users have found that the initial voice warning is gone and the GPS device only advises the driver of the turn at the very last second. Not only is this a pain in the ass, but it’s also arguably a safety issue.
Despite receiving complaint calls from many, Garmin doesn’t seem to believe this is a software bug. The company, which rarely issues firmware updates that are buggy, feels the volume of concerned callers would be much higher if this was a widespread issue. Those affected by the issue have been told that if there is an issue no fix will be available until the next update whenever that is and some have been instructed in how to uninstall the 4.3 update only to find the problem remaining after the new software is removed.
So far we haven’t heard of any resolution to the problem, but there is some ongoing discussion on the GPSReview forums regarding the issue if you want to keep tabs.
