gaza strip Hamas claims Google Earth was used to find Gaza targets for Israeli bombersThe Gaza Strip Hamas government claims Palestinian Authority agents used Google Earth to pinpoint targets for the Israeli air force to bomb during January’s Gaza offensive.

From AFP:

“With the help of the Google Earth programme, those groups prepared maps to localise mosques, institutions, tunnels or workshops,” said Abu Abdallah, a senior intelligence officer in the Hamas government which rules the Gaza Strip.

The targets were then hit by the Israeli air force, he told a news conference.

Abu Abdallah said the information included plans of the home of the Hamas prime minister Ismail Haniya as well as the location of tunnels and weapons caches.”

Hopefully if both sides learn to use Google Earth more effectively, they’ll become so efficient at blowing each other up, the battle will end already!

  • We know terrorists use google maps for their work, its only fair that Israel does as well. Not quite sure how a tunnel would show up on google and not on a photo-recon by the military though, so I suspect the article is 90% BS.
  • I wouldn't doubt that the article is BS, just pure propaganda. I think the funniest part was the floor plans...sure doubt you would find those on Google Earth! I know that wasn't the reference, just kidding, but all this hoopla over the downsides of Google Earth are driving me nuts!
