University of Washington graduate student Brian Ferris has created a Google Maps mashup that allows users to find real-time transit information for Seattle.
The project, dubbed One Bus Away, lets you search for bus arrival times by looking for an address, route or stop number. Route searches return the entire route on Google Maps with a pin marking every bus stop along the way. If you click on a pin, an information box will pop up showing how many minutes you’ll have to wait until the next bus.
For a more general overview, you can also zoom into a larger area of Seattle and see all the bus stops within the chosen grid space. Like route search, you’ll see pins marking all the bus stops, which show real-time bus arrival times if clicked.
One Bus Away is accessible from the web, or alternatively you can access an iPhone-optimized site or an SMS-based text messaging interface.
