It still hasn’t been confirmed if Intel will allow Hewlett-Packard to use Atom processors in a couple of netbooks later this year. HP has been in talks with Intel because the company wants to use Atom processors in 11.6- and 13.3-inch notebooks (Intel usually only allows Atom’s to be used in models under 10.2-inches). It was previously reported that discussions would conclude by the end of January, but Digitimes is reporting that HP will indeed launch the two models–though it wasn’t clear if Intel would supply the processors.
The publication says that its sources have revealed that HP will release the Mini-note 2150 with a 3G radio at the beginning of June. I’m not sure if that will be the 11- or 13-inch model or a separate device altogether, but all will be launched in the second quarter. Inventec has received the manufacturing contract.
The Mini-note 2150 will be the follow-up model to the 10-inch Mini-note 2140 which is expected to ship later this month. It uses an Atom processor.
If the Digitimes report is true, it seems to confirm that HP and Intel have reached an agreement. What I’m wondering is if HP will use Intel’s rumored processor being developed for ultra-thin notebooks–kind of the no man’s land between netbooks and full-featured notebooks. Possibly a new and lower-cost Core processor or some type of efficient ULV processor?
