iMove is a great Google Maps mashup chronicling real-time traffic conditions in Vancouver, British Columbia. It pulls data from all of Greater Vancouver’s various transit authorities including TransLink, BC Ministry of Transportation, Transport Canada, Western Economic Diversification and the Vancouver Port Authority, and manages to put it all together in an easy-to-navigate user interface.
Not only does it focus on drivers, but also transit riders, commercial drivers, out-of-towners and those traveling outside the boundaries of Greater Vancouver. Each of these segments has its own tab at the top of the map that when clicked, display different categories for applicable routes and travel information on the left side of the map, which can also be clicked. You can also intermingle different transportation methods which often happens in Vancouver. For example, you may ride your bike from downtown to the Sea Bus, take the Sea Bus with your bike to North Vancouver, and ride around up in the mountains. It’s simple to plan this too as it only requires you to check boxes.
In addition, iMove displays real-time information regarding road conditions, accidents and construction hassles at the bottom of the map, as well as enables access to road-level webcams. I wish every city had a mapping implementation like this. It’s one of the best I’ve seen.
