Why would a small GPS software company spend valuable man hours perpetually updating their GPS database? Hyderabad, India-based SatNav Technologies has no idea, and that’s why they’ve crowdsourced the development, launching a project dubbed Citizen Mapper.
As part of the project, aimed at improving the quality of their GPS software, SatNav offers contributors one credit each time they contribute a point of interest to the database. After accumulating 50 credits, one can get a free upgrade of the company’s SatGuide software.
Smart plan by a small company, especially in India where navigation services are taking off, though not mainstream as per North America and Europe. But by jumping on the rollercoaster as it rides up the tracks, SatNav Technologies looks to be in a good position with Citizen Mapper.
