Apple has released both the version 2.2.1 firmware update for the 3G iPhone, first-generation iPhone, and iPod Touch as well as a sibling 2.2.1 SDK update.
The firmware update is a pretty hefty 246 MB but doesn’t seem to bring any major fixes to the table. Apple says that the update improves the stability of the Safari web browser and fixes saved images from Mail that previously didn’t display correctly in the Camera Roll. To download firmware v2.2.1, just hook up your Apple device to your computer, launch iTune’s, and check for updates. One tip for unlocked iPhone users though–apparently this update causes a few changes in the handset’s baseband, so proceed with caution.
The 1.75 GB iPhone SDK update is available from the iPhone Dev Center, but like the firmware update, doesn’t seem to have anything new. It includes the Xcode 3.1.2 release which has been around since the last SDK update in November, and doesn’t seem to have any new API’s or API updates. It looks to offer nothing more than a few bug fixes.
