Rumors have been flying today regarding a potential falling out between Apple and Rogers Wireless in Canada over Rogers’ inadequate-to-say-the-least data plans. It actually all started a couple of days back when AppleInsider reported that Apple was sanctioning Rogers by diverting a great deal of Canadian iPhone stock to Europe as a result of public outrage at Rogers’ data plans, limiting Canadian Apple stores to only 10-20 phones come Friday. Today it continued when AppleInsider once again claimed to have gleamed information from Apple during a phone call last night that confirmed Apple would not sell 3G iPhone’s in its Canadian retail outlets at all, leaving Rogers Wireless and its partners as the only sellers in Canada.
But is this the real reason? Was AppleInsider’s source reliable? CNET has found out that no Apple retail store outside of the US will carry the 3G iPhone, so although it’s probably safe to assume that Apple and Rogers Wireless may be at odds at the moment, we’re not so sure that’s why they’ve pulled the iPhone from Canadian stores.
