It’s fair to say that Apple’s App Store has a bit of a totalitarian app approval process, a rash of disgruntled developers as a result, and a rather large amount of useless apps. But there is also no denying that Apple has the most successful mobile application store on the market. In fact the company has reported that it transacted 1.5 billion app downloads since the app store launched last summer. In addition, 65, 000 applications are now available to 77 different countries. And 100, 000 developers have signed up for the developer program.
Contrast these numbers with those of the Android Market, Blackberry App World, Palm’s new app store and the others that have recently launched. Actually, let’s not go there.
