Japan’s NTT DoCoMo chooses Motorola for location-based services

moto logo Japans NTT DoCoMo chooses Motorola for location based servicesJapan’s wireless provider NTT DoCoMo has chosen Motorola’s Mobile Advanced Location System to power its location-based services platform.  Not only will DoCoMo mobile subscribers have access to LBS in Japan, but because Motorola’s platform is Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) Secure User Plane Location (SUPL) 1.0 standard-compliant, subscribers will also be able to us services when roaming on overseas carriers.

NTT DoCoMo will enable users to access digital maps, store favorite locations, and use turn-by-turn driving and pedestrian navigation applications.

Motorola’s Mobile Advanced Location System detects users’ location by a combination of cell tower triangulation and GPS coordinates.
