JotYou is a free SMS service with a bit of a catch. Being location-based messaging it’ll only deliver the SMS message if the receiver of the message is in a prespecified location determined by GPS/WiFi at a specified time. Well at first this might sound kind of pointless, it actually has many practical uses. For instance, reminding you to pick up an item you need at the grocery store just as you’re passing by. Or telling your friend to drop by, but making sure he only gets the message if he’s in the immediate area. It even has an “event organizer” feature that can track several participants as they navigate their way through a scavenger hunt or geocaching event.
To start using JotYou, you just have to make your way through the usual registration process, install the JotYou mobile application on your Nokia, Windows Mobile, Blackberry or any other Java J2ME mobile device, and then you can start messaging your friends and family by using your mobile phone address book or Google Maps built into the app.
