Layar: Augmented reality for Android

Augmented reality is one of the next generation uses of GPS technology.  In a nutshell, it’s the addition of an information layer on top of, well, reality.  Layar is an Android application that demonstrates some of the things that can be done with a cellphone that has GPS, a compass and a camera.  Developed by SPRXmobile, Layar is currently available for Android with plans for an iPhone 3GS app after the summer.  Right now the app is limited to the Netherlands, but I’m guessing we’ll see more coverage in the future.
