Pelago, maker of the popular Whrrl location-based social networking platform, has partnered with Maponics for Neighborhood Boundaries to enable its users to access more locally relevant content. Maponics specializes in serving location-based data to companies and currently is involved with several other location-aware companies including events database Zvents and real estate search engines Roost and Smarter Agent.
Maponics will supply Whrrl with information from over 50, 000 neighborhoods in 2, 000 cities in the United States and Canada. Information is available in different scales from larger metropolitan neighborhoods to smaller sub-neighborhoods so Whrrl users will be able to target searches on the social network specifically to their immediate locations. The agreement will also help Whrrl improve its mapping detail and experience.
The financial terms of the deal weren’t disclosed.
