Lenovo has a 12-inch Atom Z280-based IdeaPad S20 netbook in the works, reports Digitimes. Intel has typically prevented manufacturers from using Atom chips in devices larger than 10-inches or so in order to prevent cannibalism of its more expensive chips. However, Digitimes states that because Lenovo broke the restriction, the company will have to pay Intel’s officially announced price, roughly US$10 higher than other vendors.
While no launch dates were mentioned, the IdeaPad S20 will pair the Z280 processor and the GN40 chipset and run Windows XP for the equivalent of US$586. In related news, ASUS’ 10-inch Z280-powered Eee PC 1004DN is expected to launch with a US$379 price tag.
