open gps tracker MAKE lists top open source GPS hacks of 2009

Looking for something to do this weekend? The MAKE blog has a series of posts up today highlighting the top open source hardware projects of 2009. One of the categories is GPS and wireless and it features a few low-cost projects for open source-loving geo-junkies. One of the more interesting projects is the Open GPS Tracker:

The Open GPS Tracker is a small device which plugs into a $20 prepaid mobile phone to make a GPS tracker. The Tracker responds to text message commands, detects motion, and sends you its exact position, ready for Google Maps or your mapping software. The Tracker firmware is open source and user-customizable.

It’ll cost you $75.00 and you’ll find the project page here.
