Loopt adds “Friends You May Know” feature

loopt friends Loopt adds Friends You May Know featureLocation-based mobile social network Loopt has added a great new feature to its iPhone app.  Like the feature found on Facebook, “Friends You May Know” adds an entire new dimension to Loopt.

One of the main problems with mobile social networks is the lack of a mainstream user base.  When it comes right down to it, having only two friends that also choose to adopt Loopt defeat the purpose of social networking.  But with suggested friends, it’s a great way to find new Loopt users in your area and even reconnect with long lost friends from your high school and college days.  And the best part is you don’t have to know their mobile phone number, something Loopt previously required for ‘friending’.  Of course, handy new features come at a price and Loopt has chosen to add the odd advertisement to the free iPhone application.

I’m interested in seeing if this improves the user base of Loopt.  With the Facebook’s and Google’s of the world quickly gaining the power to crush smaller social networks like Loopt, anything will help.
