Silicon Valley-based Loopt announced this morning that its location-based social network is now available on Sprint’s Instinct smartphone family.
Powered by Loopt’s Location platform (in turn powered by Qualcomm’s QPoint technology), the Instinct application features all of functionality offered on other platforms and handsets including always-on location, friend-finding, and a huge database of places to see and things to do.
The great thing about always-on location is that you’ll be able to receive friend updates and alerts even when Loopt is running in the background. Most iPhone Loopt users know this is hugely important to making the application useful. Though Push Notifications have come to the iPhone now, users have had to keep the application open to receive updates for the past year. Anytime users needed to make a phone call or switch applications, they’d have to shut Loopt down and re-open it again later to receive new updates. Moving on though.
There is full touchscreen integration with the Sprint Instinct as well so users can pan and zoom through interactive maps and friend updates by touching the Instinct’s display. And with Facebook Connect, Twitter and MySpace integration, you can share your location and activities with your friends on those social networks as well.

Loopt users on the Sprint Instinct aren’t limited to the Sprint network either. Because Loopt has a working relationship with all of the US carriers and compatibility with over 100 mobile devices, users can interact with Loopt users on other carriers as well.
