MapQuest has announced MapQuest Navigator for iPhone (iTunes link), a voice-guided turn-by-turn application for the iPhone.

MapQuest Navigator for iPhone has the following key features according to the company:

  1. 3D user interface with voice-guided turn-by-turn directions with spoken street names
  2. Regular data updates with a 16 million POI baseline
  3. Full route corridor download provides quick route recalculation in the event of a wrong or missed turn; and, continued service in areas with little to no wireless reception
  4. Traffic incident-based reporting in the United States
  5. A Place Carousel for simple and intuitive POI exploration

Pricing is subscription based. The first 14 day ‘free trial’ will cost users $0.99, [Pricing correction: "Some of you may have noticed that when we initially launched MapQuest Navigator for iPhone, we offered a $.99 price for a 14-day trial. Unfortunately, due to App Store restrictions, we are now unable to support this offer. The application is now initially available for one month at $3.99."] and after that time has elapsed. MapQuest will charge a subscription fee as follows: $3.99 per month, $9.99 for three months, $29.99 for one year.
