Microsoft has developed Windows Embedded NavReady 2009, a PND operating platform, according to a press release from yesterday.  Built specifically for OEM’s building out feature-rich PND’s, the NavReady operating system allows manufacturers to bring PND’s with internet connectivity, mobile phones with Bluetooth,  and other connected devices to market quickly and easily.  Based on Windows Embedded CE, NavReady 2009 features include:

Live Search–internet-based Live Search for finding local POIs

Bluetooth technologies–Hands Free, Pairing Service, Phone Book Access, Advanced Audio Distribution, Audio and Video Remote Control, Dial Up Networking and Bluetooth Connection Manager.  PND’s can be used to make hands-free phone calls when paired with a Bluetooth mobile phone.

MSN Direct–for providing up-to-date traffic alerts and fuel prices

Windows SideShow–allows the PND to be used as a secondary display for a Vista-based PC, and allows Sideshow gadgets to exchange info between the two

Windows Embedded NavReady 2009 is downloadable from the Microsoft website.
