Mio, known for manufacturing portable navigation devices, will be launching a 3.5G-capable handset in the first quarter of 2009.  According to Digitimes, the handset will run on Windows Mobile, have a Mitac-designed touch interface (Mio is a subsidiary of Mitac) dubbed Spirit, built-in GPS, a 3.5G Qualcomm chipset (possibly with integrated Skyhook positioning technology), and a 3.2 megapixel auto-focus camera.  According to sources Digitimes spoke with, the handset should be released ahead of Garmin’s nuviphone.

Mio is rumored to be developed a mobile internet device (MID) as well, also GPS-enabled, for first quarter release in 2009.  The MID is expected to sport a 7- or 8-inch TFT-LCD display, 3G capabilities, and run on the Windows CE operating system.
