Mobile Defense: Find your lost Android cellphone in 30 seconds

mobiledefense Mobile Defense: Find your lost Android cellphone in 30 seconds

A Google Android application called Mobile Defense can locate a lost cellphone in 30 seconds while promising to protect your personal information and privacy.

The application installs a small tracking code (like a cookie) on your phone which interfaces with a website.  Activated remotely from the Mobile Defense website–you’ll need to register–the icon is hidden on your phone, but if your phone is lost, you can login to the website and your phone will be located in 30 seconds using a combination of GPS, Wi-Fi and cellular tower positioning technologies.  Then its location will be pinpointed on Google Maps with Street View.

Once the website connects to your phone you’ll also be able to lock it and send your contact information to it so a potential finder can contact you.  Future plans include the ability to remotely backup your data and delete any potentially sensitive or personal information.

There’s really no reason not to install this application if you have an Android-based phone.  It’s hidden, it only runs if you lose your phone and activate it, and it’s free!
