Google’s Android OS Facing Delays, But Still Coming Late 2008
This is not a particularly great time for Google’s Android OS to start having problems. With all the hype surrounding the recent 3G iPhone debut, a timely debut for Android is key but apparently mobile operators are having some integration problems. T-Mobile was supposed to launch Android in the second half of the year, and while the wireless carrier is still forecasting the same timeframe for release, the wording has been changed to “delayed to late Q4″. T-Mobile’s Android-driven mobile phone launch is actually taking up so much of Google’s resources that Sprint Nextel, which also was to release an Android-driven phone this year won’t be able to. Sprint is thinking now that’ll they’ll scrap the current Android phone plans and develop one for WiMax. Even China Mobile’s launch will be delayed until late in 2008 or early 2009. The key question is: will this affect Android’s potential marketplace success?
