Update Your Nokia N810 Internet Tablet To AGPS
Nokia’s N810 already had GPS support, but AGPS is oh-so-much better and a new app released in beta downloadable from the Nokia Beta Labs blog gives just that kind of awesome assisted supported to the N810. Whereas plain ‘ol GPS requires a satellite fix for positioning which at times requires a bit of a wait, assisted GPS uses WiFi hotspots and cell tower triangulation to quicken the process. This means a faster location fix and less waiting time when you need to know where you’re going.
Being a beta app there are a few downsides to the N810 AGPS support. Namely it requires an active internet connection to receive fresh data. This can be done via WiFi or Bluetooth, but check out your N810’s data plan to make sure you’re not paying up the wazoo for the added functionality. Oh, we can wait for the day’s or real unlimited data plans.
Two other important points. First of all you’ll need to have the latest OS2008 SW which you can find here, and when you first use the app you’ll need to manually point out your first location on the provided map.
