Airborne Mobile, a Montreal-based mobile content company, has announced the closing of a $2 million growth financing round with iNovia Capital. The company says the round will fund new mobile media initiatives including an application for home buyers and real estate agents, an application that lets mobile users chat without revealing their phone numbers, and an interactive cable TV network.
The company, which has been in business for over a decade, was previously known as Airborne Entertainment and was controlled by Japan’s Cybird. In July of 2008, the company was able to regain majority shareholder status, conducting a management buy-out from Cybird. At that time several business units–including mobile gaming–were shut down resulting in a 25 percent staffing decrease and the company name was changed to Airborne Mobile. The restructuring couldn’t have happened at a better time as it effectively positioned the small company to succeed in a tough economic environment.
Airborne Mobile, founded by Garner Bornstein and Andy Nulman, has partnerships with every major wireless carrier in North America. It has also established partnerships with several well-known consumer brands including Family Guy, Maxim, NHL, and Taco Bell.
