Motorola has announced a pair of new handheld, GPS-enabled computers dubbed the FR6000 and FR68.

Developed for the Asia-Pacific market, targeting retail, logistics, manufacturing, transportation, healthcare, utilities and public safety, the FR6000 and FR68 have similar core capabilities despite their differing form factors.

Both include Windows Mobile 6.1 in English and simplified Chinese, traditional Chinese, Japanese and Korean, 2.8-inch QVGA displays, 624 MHz Marvell PXA312 processors, 128 MB of RAM and 256 MB of flash storage.  Furthermore each have a barcode scanner, as well as 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and 3.5G cellular support.  While data speeds will differ by country, both Motorola handhelds will support HSDPA where available.  Moreover, both handhelds also meet IP54 standards for environmental conditions.

As mentioned above, the FR6000 and FR68 differ in form factor.  The FR6000 measures 7.4 x 2.83 x 1.78 inches and has an alpha-numeric keyboard, while the FR68 is a smaller 5.57 x 2.59 x 0.93 inches, features a full QWERTY keypad, and a 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera–which the FR6000 lacks.  In terms of connections, both handhelds sports an RS232 port, USB 2.0 port, and IrDA ports, while the FR68 adds a microSD slot and the FR6000 features a microSD slot and a Type II CompactFlash slot.

The FR68 comes with a couple of battery options.  Users have the choice of a 1950 mAh battery or an optional 3600 mAh battery.  The standard, smaller battery features 3 hours of talk time and 85 hours of standby time.  The larger battery boosts the talk time to 5 hours, while the standby time increases to 150 hours.  The FR6000 simply comes with the 3600 mAh battery.

Being enterprise-related, Motorola doesn’t have a set price for either model, but both are available now.
