Motorola UK has debuted the rugged MC55 line, the carrier’s smallest and lightest Enterprise Digital Assitant (EDA) to date. Targeted at mobile field workers looking for walkie-talkie functionality similar to that offered on the push-to-talk Sprint Nextel network.
The MC5590 is built with IP54-grade durability rendering it immune to temperature extremes, dust, water and other environmental conditions. Included is an LED-backlit display, QWERTY keyboard, GPS, Wi-Fi, a 2 megapixel camera, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR and a microSD card slot. Unfortunately the MC5590 doesn’t support 3G connectivity, opting instead for GSM/GPRS/EDGE and running on Windows Mobile 6.1. The Motorola MC5574 includes all of the above features but adds in WWAN for wireless connectivity in the field.
Both models offer push-to-talk functionality with other Motorola enterprise devices via Motorola’s Total Enterprise Access and Mobility Express. The company hasn’t announced either pricing or availability.
