As a native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, I’m pretty familiar with two things: (1) numbness in my extremities, and (2) sub-zero temperatures sucking the life out of my battery-powered gadgets.
Mountain Hardware looks to have created the solution to my gadget-related problems with a new winter jacket that simultaneously keeps you warm while charging your GPS, mobile phone, iPod, or digital camera. Technically, the Moshi heating system and power adapter that handles the fancy footwork is a separate component. The jacket itself, branded as Refugium for men and Radiance for women, is sold separately.
The Moshi power system is created by Ardica Technology. It utilizes a rechargeable lithium-ion battery and a heating system consisting of 3 lightweight heating elements. The heating elements last up to 8 hours on the lowest temperature setting and take roughly 3 hours to fully charge. A toggle switch built into the jacket can be adjusted to deliver temperatures up to 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Toasty.
As with all new and innovative tech products though, the Mountain Hardware winter jacket system will set you back a few bucks. The jacket itself costs $240, the Moshi system a further $145, while the tech connector kit will cost $50.
Keep your eyes open for the Mountain Hardware jacket on October 15.
