Taiwanese computer manufacturer MSI has put together what it claims is the first hybrid storage netbook. By hybrid the company means the U115 will have both a solid state drive and hard disk drive. The 10-inch netbook will come with an 8 or 16 GB SSD and 120 or 160 GB HDD, powered along by a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom Z530 chip and 1 GB of RAM.
Running the Windows XP operating system, the U115 can run both the SSD and HDD simultaneously or just the SSD in order to save power. Other features include 802.11n Wi-Fi, optional Bluetooth support, 1.3 megapixel camera and 4-in-1 card reader. Connectivity options will include 3 USB 2.0 ports, a VGA output, and slots for a mic and headphones, as well as Ethernet. Unfortunately the MSI U115 is a little on the heavy side–2.2 pounds with a three-cell battery–and a 6-cell option will be available.
