Navigon’s 5-inch 8450 Live and 4.3-inch 6350 Live GPS devices, announced this morning at IFA, signal the company’s entrance into the connected PND market. Both new devices will be equipped with a GPRS modem and SIM card–a Live Module–that sits between the GPS and charger when set on a vehicle’s dashboard. The connectivity will provide Google Local Search, up-to-date fuel prices, a speed camera database, and, in Germany, parking spot availability.
The first 3 months of connected services are free with purchase of either Navigon Live GPS, after which subscription pricing takes effect–€79.95 (US$114) for a 1-year contract or €139.95 (US$200) for a 2-year agreement. However, if owners subscribe within the first 30 days of initial use, the price of both contracts is slashed by 25%–€59.95 (US$86) for 1 year or €104.95 (US$150) for 2 years.
Navigon 8410 and 6310 share the same features, minus included Live services, but can also buy the Live Module separately and add connected services to the respective devices for €99 (US$141).
The 84xx series is further compatible with a digital TV module that accepts DVB-T reception in Europe. It costs an extra €59.95 (US$86).
The Navigon 8410 and Navigon 6310 will ship in mid-September for €449 (US$641) and €299 (US$427), while the 8450 Live and 6350 Live will ship in October for €499 (US$712) and €349 (US$498), respectively.
