Navigon GPS navigator scrapped due to MStar chip problems: Digitimes

navigon 3300max 150x150 Navigon GPS navigator scrapped due to MStar chip problems: DigitimesGPS chip manufacturer MStar is in danger of losing business from its PND partners as the company has failed to settle disputes related to the failure of one of its GPS chips in June.

The faulty chip caused over 100, 000 GPS devices to mysteriously shut down in June rendering them completely inoperable.  PND manufacturers such as Panasonic, Globalsat Technology, and Supa Technology are said to have frozen orders from MStar, and may transfer orders to the CSR-owned SiRF.

Also of note: an upcoming MStar-powered Navigon GPS device being manufactured by an affected partner has apparently hit the scrap heap.
