The Navigon iPhone app is an on-board solution, meaning that once the app is downloaded all of the NAVTEQ maps of North America and software is stored on the iPhone. Not only does this make the app quicker and more responsive than an off-board solution, it also means you won’t have to pay monthly subscription costs for data transfer.

MobileNavigator’s key features are virtually identical to those found on dedicated Navigon portable navigation devices. 2D and 3D map views, branded POIs, Reality View, Lane Assistant Pro, speed warnings, and signpost displays are all included. Navigon also takes advantage of the iPhone’s accelerometer so the display can automatically switch between portrait and landscape modes, and its multitouch display, enabling users to pan and zoom maps with two fingers. Users can also connect their address book to the app and receive turn-by-turn directions to a chosen contact.

Available this morning in the App Store, Navigon MobileNavigator for North America will be on sale for $69.99 until August 15, after which the price will go up to $99.99.

WHEN is the TomTom app going to be available? Very frustrated with them. So frustrated that I may buy the Navigon app instead!
