Navigon is releasing a dash mounting kit for the iPhone in October, according to GPS Review. While details are minimal at the moment, it doesn’t appear that the Navigon car kit features a GPS chip, speaker, or Bluetooth–all features the competing TomTom iPhone car kit has. I would expect Navigon would at least incorporate a GPS chip in its car kit to augment the sometimes subpar GPS performance of the iPhone 3G and 3GS. That would be the best way to get maximum performance from the Navigon iPhone app, and place it squarely in the path of TomTom. I guess for those worried about price though, this is a good thing. It’s got to be cheaper that the TomTom car kit coming next month!
