Digital mapping provider NAVTEQ just keeps its flurry of announcements a-coming. This morning the Nokia-subsidiary announced it had been selected as the mapping provider for United States mobile provider MetroPCS.
MetroPCS, which provides prepaid flat-rate cellphone plans without contractual ties, will use NAVTEQ mapping data for its location-based services. Included is MetroNavigator, a new downloadable application that provides turn-by-turn driving directions, local search, a POI database, and, of course, NAVTEQ maps and data.
Yesterday, NAVTEQ announced it had extended its deal with MSN Direct to provide the latter with NAVTEQ Traffic. NAVTEQ Traffic is used with Microsoft’s Live Search Maps online and to augment MSN Direct’s real-time traffic information offered on many of today’s portable navigation devices. MSN Direct connected services now cover 106 markets in the United States.
