Anyone who has ever been behind the wheel of a car knows the frustration of last minute lane changes and missed exits. Sometimes they can be more than just frustrating as a panicked driver is a dangerous one.

Today, digital mapping company NAVTEQ announced the availability of Motorway Junction Objects in North America, somewhat easing the above-mentioned driving complications. Motorway Junction Objects are animated 3D visual cues that simplify the process of navigating complex junctions and intersections. They can be combined with 3D Landmarks and Sign-As-Real highway sign replication can be added on the developer end, while the whole process of 2D to 3D map translation occurs automatically on the end user side.

Motorway Junction Objects is still a fairly new NAVTEQ feature. The release today include 2, 000 trouble spots in North America and 8, 000 are covered globally. It’ll only become more useful in the future.
