Popular location-based services company Networks In Motion (NIM) has acquired real-time traffic information provider TrafficGauge.
NIM is a widespread provider of real-time traffic info on North American mobile phones, and the company says the acquisition of TrafficGauge will help improve the accuracy of traffic information in the next-generation Traffic Sharing System.
NIM maintains it will continue focusing on location-based services for mobile phones rather than enter the merchant traffic data business. The price of the acquisition is undisclosed, but it doesn’t include TrafficGauge’s hardware services business, customer base, service contracts or web properties.
