Networks In Motion LogoThink the whole cellphone/GPS convergence is nothing more than a phase?  Think again.  Networks In Motion reports that May 10, the day before Mother’s Day this year saw the highest usage of navigational features on mobile phones in history with a huge 5 million requests.  These requests were not only for directions but holiday-related POIs such as florists and restaurants.  Networks In Motion claims a 57% US revenue share from navigation services offered to cellphone users by responding to searches for POIs, navigation routes, map downloads or sending geotagged messages to friends.  In the full month of May, NIM received 100 million navigation requests from 3 million subscribers.
