If Microsoft was trying to drum up interest for its upcoming Windows Marketplace for Mobile with its Mobile Incubation Week competition in Mountain View, California this week, it missed the marketing boat. Thanks to Brian Hoskins Twitter feed however, I just found out that Networks In Motion won an “American Idol”-style competition for Windows Mobile applications as the conference wrapped up yesterday.
Debuting Gokivo Navigator for Windows Mobile, NIM beat out five other finalists out of a pool of fifty to win an “early placement” in Windows Marketplace for Mobile. And a free Zune music player. The finalists were as follows:
Networks In Motion: Gokivo Navigator software enables mobile phones to function like fully-featured GPS devices.
Brightkite: a location-based mobile social network
Motolingo: a telematics service that monitors vehicle diagnostics and cellphone activity
VisTracks: real-time asset tracking for enterprise
VoiceMuffler: a speech-to-speech language translation program for military personnel and civilian travelers
DJNitrogen: peer-to-peer sharing of user-generated mobile content with a music emphasis
Networks In Motion reportedly added some new functionality to its turn-by-turn GPS Gokivo Navigator for the event including the ability to share location on Facebook. Blackberry users can also get their hands on Gokivo Navigator for Blackberry, recently launched in the Blackberry App World.
