If you recognize the Newport Digital Technologies P37M “military grade” Windows Mobile handheld, you’re not alone. It looks a helluva lot alike the Glacier Computer Ridgeline Q100 we saw back in February, and with almost identical specs to boot, it’s most likely the exact same re-branded device.
The 3.7-inch touchscreen P37M does a couple of differences though. First of all, its built-in GSM/GPRS cellular modem is undergoing certification for use on AT&T’s wireless network and it has an RFID reader, neither of which you’ll find on the Q100. Other features though are basically the same.
SiRF-powered GPS, 802.11b/g WLAN, and Bluetooth 1.2 make up the wireless interfaces, while 10/100 Ethernet, two USB 1.1 host connectors, one USB 1.1 client connector, an RS232 port, and an RS232/422/485 port make up the wired interfaces.
The Newport P37M GPS-enabled rugged handheld is expected to launch in the next four months, pending AT&T certification, for an undisclosed price.
