Following a rumor last month that Nokia had teamed up with fitness company Polar to improve its Sports Tracker program, Engadget Mobile came across an FCC filing for a Bluetooth-enabled Polar heart rate monitor yesterday. Not surprisingly, today Nokia has announced its new and smallest Nseries phone, the Nokia N79 Active. It ships with the above-mentioned and now-named Polar Bluetooth WearLink heart rate belt so you can wirelessly monitor how hard you’re actually working the ol’ ticker.
The N79 Active comes equipped with a new version of Nokia’s Sports Tracker application and assisted GPS so you can track your runs and routes and share them on them web. With its 5 megapixel Carl Zeiss camera you can also take pictures while out on your jaunts, geotag them, and share them too.
It’s always nice to listen to tunes on long runs, so a 4 GB micro SD slot allows you to hold all kinds of music. You can add tracks to your playlist over-the-air from Nokia’s music store and listen to the radio with the Active’s built-in FM transmitter.
Nokia says the N79 Active will be available in select markets with an estimated retail price of 375 euros. And thanks to the FCC filing we know it’ll be on its way to the United States soon.
