Nokia has unleashed three new N-Series handsets on the North American and European markets, although they won’t see an official release just yet.

The Nokia N79 is a tri-band GSM/HSDPA handset with a compact design and three interchangeable Xpress-on covers that let you customize the color of your phone. Marketed as more of a multimedia computer than a cellphone, the N79 features integrated GPS that works with Nokia Maps to both geotag photos and provide turn-by-turn voice-guided navigation. Photos can be taken courtesy of a 5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics, dual LED flash and a video light and are editable without the use of a PC. Other features include Wi-Fi and 50GB of internal memory plus an included 4GB microSD card. Expected price: $500-$550.

Nokia’s N85 boasts an impressive 2.6-inch OLED screen for the highest-res/contrast mobile viewing experience around. It’s specs are similar to the N79 other than a slider form factor and its 10 preloaded N-Gage games. We’re sure with the OLED display, the N85 would make an excellent video and gaming phone. Of course it include assisted GPS technology and Bluetooth 2.0 and expect it to be priced between $600 and $650.

Now for the North American edition of Nokia’s N96. With a bit of a clunky design and a ridiculous price sitting somewhere between $750 and $800, the Nokia N85 looks to be a better choice. It will support NA’s 850/1900 HSDPA bands and feature an impressive 16GB of internal memory expandable with a microSD card. Like the N79 and N85, the N96 features a 5 megapixel camera but can record video at 30 frames per second. Sporting a dual-slider design, the N96 also offers AGPS, WiFi and Bluetooth.
Look for the trio to start appearing sometime in October.
