As expected, Nokia announced its Ovi Store for Symbian mobile applications at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain.  Applications will work on the millions of S60 and Series 40 handsets available and unlike other application stores, will target content to the user based on their location, time and reason for being in a location, and based on who has downloaded similar content.  Content previously downloaded by friends and peers will also be highlighted for each user.

While the official store launch will be in May, the first handset to have the Ovi Store onboard will be the Nokia N97 which will arrive in June.  The company plans to have an estimated 300 million users globally with access to the Ovi Store by 2012, and the 4 million current Symbian developers will receive a 70 percent cut of gross sales from their apps.
