Nokia Surge hits AT&T July 19: assisted GPS, QWERTY keyboard, Flash support

I’m not the hugest Nokia smartphone fan, though I am pretty interested in how its Ovi internet services will fair over time.  I do kind of like the look of the Nokia Surge, announced this morning for AT&T.  It is an entry-level S60 handset, but it still manages to pull off an attractive form factor and features that we wouldn’t have found in an entry-level phone a year ago.

The Surge has a 2.4-inch 240 x 320 pixel display, 3G connectivity, a slide-out QWERTY keyboard with large keys, a 2 megapixel camera, assisted GPS with AT&T Navigator, and AT&T Video Share for video calls.  It also has a full suite of messaging tools including IM, SMS, SMS and email, as well as JuiceCaster, a service that makes it simple to upload photos from the Surge to various social networks like Facebook and Twitter.

It’s also nice that the Nokia Surge has Flash support in the web browser enabling video viewing and audio downloads from Napster, XM Radio and eMusic.

The Nokia Surge will ship from AT&T on July 19 for $79.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate.  You’ll also have to sign a minimum 2-year contract as well–a minimum $30 per month for a data plan and a minimum $39.99 per month for a voice plan.
