Nokia Expecting To Sell 35 Million GPS Cell Phones In 2008
Nokia expects to sell 35 million GPS-equipped cellphones in 2008, said CEO Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo at yesterday’s shareholder’s meeting. That’s equal to the entire GPS device market in 2007, definitely an impressive target. Kallasvuo also said Nokia is even more expected about their European Union-pending $8.1 billion Navteq purchase given the recent consumer interest in “pedestrian navigation, map services, digital maps”. Nokia’s posting some pretty impressive customer retention numbers, with 70% of this year’s cell phone sales to be replacement purchases.
