Nova Mobility Systems has announced the SideArm2 UMPC, soon to be available in Industrial, Business, and Military versions. As far as we know, embedded GPS is a standard feature in all three models but we’ll focus on the Industrial version here because the specs are available.
Built for-you guessed it-commercial uses, the SideArm2 UMPC weights in at under 2 pounds and has a one handed keyboard that allows you to support the device with the other hand. The display is a 7-inch 800 x 480 pixel LED display with a daylight readable option. Running on an Intel Atom 1.1 GHz Z510 with a US15W chipset, the SideArm2 supports a variety of operating systems including Linux, Windows XP Embedded and Pro Tablet, and Vista. Memory is a standard 1 GB with a 2 GB option and the UMPC features plenty of extra storage space as well-2 DOM slots with up to 32 GB per slot, and up to 64 GB SSD, 120 GB HDD, and 6 GB microSD.
The SideArm2 is connected to say the least. Not only does it support 3G and GSM networks, plus 802.11 a/b/g WiFi and Bluetooth v2.0, it also supports EVDO and CDMA networks via a PCI Express card. And not only does it sport full GPS functionality, but it also has RFID, barcode scanning, and even iris scanning options.
Speaking of options, this feature-packed UMPC also has three battery options. The primary battery is a 3-hour lithium-ion battery, while two secondary options power the SideArm2 for 7- and 10-hours respectively.
This UMPC definitely looks pretty cool. In fact we’ve put in a request to an early copy for a hands-on review, but in the meantime mark your calendars-Nova’s SideArm2 will be available globally sometime in November 2008.
