[...] Microsoft will be toughening up its Windows Mobile operating system and using it on fewer devices, reports Bits. The company was vague in hinting at what the changes may entail but Todd Peters, Microsoft’s VP of marketing for Windows Mobile, told Bits “the company will talk about how it can provide more value through new touch-screen capability and new service offerings” at the Mobile World Congress in February. Peters also revealed that Windows Mobile won’t be on as many phones in the future. Instead Microsoft will focus on better integrating the OS into select handsets, offering more features, and charging higher licensing fees. It’s unlikely I’ll lose any sleep over this one. Microsoft doesn’t exactly have a recent history of earth-shattering product announcements. And how exactly is the company going to upstage Palm?
