Palm Pre coming to Walmart “soon”

palmpre 275x300 Palm Pre coming to Walmart soonThe wildly anticipated Palm Pre is expected to be announced June 7, according to industry insiders, and while we already knew it would be offered through Sprint and Best Buy stores, the Wall Street Journal is reporting that Walmart will also carry the mobile phone “soon.”

This indicates that Palm is confident the Pre and its new webOS operating system is competitive with Apple’s iPhone which is also offered through Best Buy and Walmart.  Rather than being offered on the Sprint network like the Palm Pre, the iPhone is exclusive to AT&T in the United States.

In other Palm Pre-related news, it was reported late last week that Sprint has designated one Pre Advocate, or expert, per retail store.  That means that each Sprint store has one Pre on location already.  Furthermore, we heard that both Bell and Telus in Canada could begin selling the Pre as early as August this summer.  Previously we had heard that Bell would sell the Pre in the second half of 2009, but knew of no plans involving Telus.
