The partfoundry will be releasing its locoGPS module for the iPhone, allowing jailbroken iPhones to have GPS functionality. To be released in February the locoGPS uses a SiRF Star III chip to find your position on the globe by locating your iPhone’s position to within 5-10 meters but the open source software in development will require an edge/wifi connection with Google Maps to display coordinates. The software is also designed to work with the jailbroken iPod Touch. Check out the demonstration above to see how the locoGPS works.
